Ottmar Hörl (geboren in 1950 in Nauheim, Duitsland) is een Duitse conceptuele kunstenaar, beeldhouwer, installatie-, actie-, fotografie- en objectkunstenaar. Hij verwierf wereldwijde populariteit vanwege zijn radicale, avant-garde kunstconcepten en grootschalige projecten met seriesculpturen in de openbare ruimte, gebaseerd op zijn kenmerkende definitie van beeldhouwkunst als een organisatieprincipe.[1][2] Hij wordt beschouwd als een "offensieve en directe strateeg die campagne voert voor een nieuw type openbare kunst"[3] en de meest succesvolle kunstenaar die meervoudige sculpturen creëert, een kunstenaar die zijn visie op kunst voor iedereen implementeert en de democratisering van beeldhouwkunst als geen ander tot nu toe promoot.[4] Zijn belangrijke bijdragen op het gebied van beeldende kunst hebben hem verschillende prijzen opgeleverd, waarvan de laatste, de CREO Innovation Award, werd toegekend door de Duitse Vereniging voor Creativiteit (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kreativität e. V.) en in 2015 aan Hörl werd uitgereikt aan de Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt am Main.[5] Sinds 1999 bekleedt Hörl een leerstoel als professor aan de Academie voor Schone Kunsten in Neurenberg en is sinds 2005 president van de Academie. Ottmar Hörl (born 1950 in Nauheim, Germany) is a German conceptual artist, sculptor, installation, action, photography and object artist. He gained worldwide popularity for his radical, avant-garde art concepts and large-scale projects with serial sculptures in public space, based on his characteristic definition of sculpture as an organizing principle.[1][2] He is considered an "offensive and direct strategist campaigning for a new type of public art"[3] and the most successful artist creating multiple sculptures, an artist who implements his vision of art for everyone and promotes the democratization of sculpture like no other to date.[4] His significant contributions to the visual arts have earned him several awards, the most recent of which, the CREO Innovation Award, was awarded by the German Society for Creativity (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Kreativität e. V.) and presented to Hörl at the Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main in 2015.[5] Since 1999, Hörl has held a professorship at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg and has been the Academy's president since 2005.
